Each player buys in for a set amount of chips, which represent money. A chip value is usually determined by the organizer of the tournament or event. After each player receives 2 hole cards, a round of betting starts. The first player to the left of the dealer opens the betting with a bet, which all players must match or raise. If a player doesn’t want to bet, they can say “check” to pass their turn.

Throughout the round of betting, players can exchange cards and replace them with others to improve their hands. The highest-ranking hand wins the pot. During this phase, it’s important to analyze your opponent’s betting to figure out if you should fold or raise your bet.
