The basic rules of poker are simple: a player with five cards has a winning hand. In a typical hand, he or she should try to get the highest possible hand. Players place bets using poker chips. Usually, the number of chips is seven or more, so there are chips for seven or more players. Each player gets a different value of each chip: the lowest value is a white chip, while the highest value is a red chip. There are also different types of chips: blue and red chips. Each chip has a different value. The lower-valued chip is the “buy-in” chip, which is usually equal to the amount the player wants to bet.

In most poker games, each player is required to contribute money to the pot before the game begins. This contribution is called the “ante”. Once a player places a bet, he or she is considered to be the first to bet. The next player is said to call, and a player who raises more than the previous bettor is said to raise. A player can also check without betting. Before making a bet, a player must ensure that no other players have bet. The betting interval ends when the last raise or check is made.
