One of the most popular card games, Poker, has several variations. The different versions of the game have betting intervals that determine the amount of money each player must contribute to the pot. In some variations, one player has the privilege and obligation to make the first bet. Each player must also contribute chips into the pot equal to the total of the previous players’ contributions. A player who places his chips into the pot is known as an “active player.”
The standard 52-card deck is used in most forms of poker. Some variations include a joker, which is not a wild card but is a second ace that may be used to complete a straight or flush. In Lowball, the joker acts as the lowest card, just as in other games. It is made from durable composite or clay. A dealer in poker will usually place the joker on the bottom of the deck in order to prevent players from stacking up the highest card.
While the game originated as a 36-card Piquet deck, most versions are now played with a standard 52-card deck. Players place bets on which hand has the best combination of cards. The ace ranks high, but is also used low in a “straight”.
